Please join us for the City of Burton Memorial Day 5K Run & Walk. The goal is to promote running and a healthy lifestyle in the City of Burton, and to raise funds for the Pack the Truck program. The Pack the Truck program provides school supplies to disadvantaged children.
Monday, May 29, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. at Atherton High School. The run will begin at 9:00 a.m. and the walk will begin at 9:03 a.m.
The race will be held in the City of Burton at Atherton High School. The address is 3354 South Genesee Road, Burton, Michigan 48519.
New for 2017 the course is USATF Certified so you are assured of an accurate course distance. The course will be closed to vehicle traffic other than local residents that require access to their property. There will be one aid station on the course and mile markers at the first and second mile. A course map is available at USATF.
There will be restrooms available at the school. Lockers and showers will not be available, so please come dressed to run.
Water, sweets, ice cream bars, and fruit will be available for participants. Plus, fresh from the Flint Farmers Market, B Dogs Hot Dog Cart will be handing out several different types of FREE Coney Hot Dogs.
Timing and results will be provided by Newton Timing & Race Services. We will be using ChronoTrack Systems, featuring the disposable bib-tag and ChronoTrack Live Results. Results will be posted immediately at the event on kiosks. Additionally you can get results by SMS, Facebook and Twitter by registering for Athlete Updates.
We will have a "chip start", which will provide actual starting times for each participant. This allows us to calculate net time, which is your calculated time from the start to the finish. In the past all participants received the same start time.
New this year, the event will be available on the Athlinks Race Day app. Download the app for free and gain access to event registration; start rosters; event details, schedules and announcements; course map, live GPS tracking of athletes; live results; branded photos and video; and social media sharing. Installing the app is quick, easy and free! Visit the Apple App Store or Google Play to download. Once installed, add the "City of Burton Memorial Day" event. We recommend re-loading the event occasionally to be sure you have the latest update.
The safety of our athletes, spectators and volunteers is our primary concern. In the event of inclement weather, every attempt will be made to preserve the safety of everyone involved, and complete the race as scheduled.
In the event of rain the event will not be cancelled due to rain alone. Race officials reserve the right to delay or shorten the race based on heavy rain. In the event of severe weather (eg: lightning, tornado, high winds) the event may be delayed as race officials consult public safety officers. If there is more than a reasonable delay, or if conditions persist, race officials reserve the right to shorten or cancel the race. Participants should seek safe shelter should severe weather develop during the race.
Please check our website, Facebook Page and your email before the race for any changes or cancellations. If you are already at the event, listen to the announcer about any weather changes that may occur. Entry fees will not be refunded in the event the race is cancelled. Entry fees will not be credited to future events.
The City of Burton Memorial Day 5K Run/Walk is event number three in the four event Burton Race Series. There is no need to register for the series, just complete three of the four events and receive a custom Burton Race Series medal.
